8 Year Old Girls Dies In Scorching Heat Locked Car While Mother Went To Work

(Featuredheadlines.com) An 8-year-old girl died after her mother left her locked in a car in scorching heat while going to her job despite warnings of hazardous weather in the state.

Ashlee Stallings, who works at the Amazon Fulfillment Center, told the police that she left the car running with its air conditioner on while leaving her daughter inside, but she might have turned it off after feeling cold.

The girl also tried to reach her mother through text, but it was of no use. Stallings went to the car almost 90 minutes after receiving the last text from her daughter and found her lying on the car’s floor. She immediately smashed the car window to reach the girl, who was trying to catch her breath. The mother called the police, who took the girl to the hospital, but it was already too late.

As the doctors pronounced the girl dead, the police arrested Stallings and transferred her to the Mecklenburg Detention Facility. She now faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and neglecting the child, with her bail set at $250,000. She will not appear before the court on July 16

Meanwhile, Amazon’s spokesperson called the event “tragic” and vowed to stand behind its employees while increasing access to counseling material. The company also pledged to help law enforcement in the investigation.

Stallings’ negligence came at a time when the state of North Carolina was grappling with extreme weather conditions, with temperatures reaching 100 degrees. The fateful day was the hottest of the year, with the mercury climbing to 99 degrees, which contributed to the girl’s death. Later, Stallings admitted to the police that she was aware of the heatwave in the state and that she should have never abandoned her girl alone in such extreme weather.

The medical examiner found that the 8-year-old girl suffered from brain herniation triggered by hyperthermia, which eventually sealed her fate.

The National Weather Service had already warned of chronic heatwaves and possible thunderstorms in Charlotte, where this tragedy happened.
