American Family Die On Dream Holiday Abroad

(FeaturedHeadlines.com) A Muslim couple from Maryland died in Saudi Arabia while performing the annual pilgrimage of Hajj due to the scorching heat that claimed the lives of more than 1,300 people during the event.

71-year-old Alieu Dausy Wurie and 65-year-old Isatu Tejan Wurie had a lifelong dream of performing Hajj. After spending $23,000 on the trip, they found themselves trapped in chronic weather conditions with little to no local assistance due to the poor management of the local authorities.

Their daughter Saida Wurie last heard from her parents on June 15 when the local temperature reached 109 °F. Saida claimed that this was a nightmare experience for her parents, who were not prepared enough to deal with heat strokes. The mercury rose up to 122 °F during the days when Hajj rituals were performed.

Now Saida is striving hard to find the dead bodies of the parents while the Consulate General’s Office claims that their bodies have already been buried.

More than 1.83 million Muslims traveled to Mecca from all over the world this year to perform Hajj, which is obligatory for every Muslim with enough means once in their lifetime.

However, this year’s events marked a notable rise in unauthorized travel to Saudi Arabia, which reportedly contributed to more than 1,300 deaths.

According to Saudi Arabia’s health minister, almost 83% of the deceased individuals were unauthorized to perform Hajj this year. The minister also claimed that illegal pilgrims are exposed to greater danger as they have to travel long distances in extreme heat in a country that is known for its mighty deserts. Unauthorized attendees are mostly unable to walk in the air conditioned routes that the Saudi government provides to the legal travelers.

Most people who died belonged to Egypt, where the government has already announced to crack down on the travel agents who helped locals in their illegal journeys. The Egyptian government has also confiscated the licenses of 16 tourism companies that helped people travel Saudi Arabia illegally.
