AOC Confronted Outside Movie Theatre

(FeaturedHeadlines.com) – US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez lost her cool on March 4 after a group of pro-Palestine demonstrators confronted the progressive lawmaker and urged her to declare Israel’s operations in the Gaza Strip as a genocide. Ocasio-Cortez called the protestors’ actions “f—ed up” and said that their behavior would not help their cause.

The protestors confronted Ocasio-Cortez and her fiancé at the Alamo Drafthouse theater in Brooklyn, calling on the congresswoman to “just say” that Israel is committing genocide in the Palestinian enclave. Ocasio-Cortez insisted that she had already said so, adding that the protestors were not aiding Palestinians by confronting her.

Ocasio-Cortez accused the protestors of planning to selectively edit their footage of the confrontation to place her remarks out of context. Ocasio-Cortez also pushed back on the protestors’ claims that she has not opposed Israeli actions in Gaza, calling them liars.

The congresswoman—a member of the so-called “Squad” of progressive lawmakers—has urged a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. Ocasio-Cortez said in January that the mere fact that the word “genocide” is being thrown around demonstrates the “inhumanity” faced by Palestinian civilians.

In January, the International Court of Justice issued a preliminary ruling that called on Israel to take measures to prevent civilian deaths and punish the public incitement of genocide. The court also rejected Israel’s request to dismiss a genocide case proposed by South Africa.

Ocasio-Cortez has urged Americans not to remove someone from public discourse for levying accusations of genocide against Israel. Polling shows that “large amounts” of people in the United States are concerned about such a genocide, according to the congresswoman.

The accusations of genocide against Israel come in the wake of a surprise attack on the country by Hamas on October 7. Israel responded to the attack with its own military operations in the Gaza Strip, which authorities in the Palestinian enclave claim have killed tens of thousands of civilians.

Fighting between Israel and Hamas continues, despite efforts to broker a temporary ceasefire, free hostages taken by Hamas, and increase deliveries of humanitarian aid to Palestinians. However, whether Israel is committing genocide remains to be officially determined.
