Biden Challenger Marianne Williamson Has Dropped Out

(FeaturedHeadlines.com) – Author Marianne Williamson suspended her 2024 presidential campaign on February 7, leaving US Congressman Dean Phillips as President Joe Biden’s only challenger for the Democratic Party nomination. Williamson suspended her campaign after receiving single-digit support in early nominating contests.

Williamson, who is known for her work as a self-help writer, also ran in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary. However, Williamson dropped out of the race and endorsed US Senator Bernie Sanders.

Williamson received 4% support in the 2024 New Hampshire primary, 2.1% in South Carolina, and 3% in Nevada. Following Williamson’s departure from the race, Phillips remains Biden’s only contender for the Democratic nomination. Phillips received nearly 20% support in New Hampshire but just 1.7% in South Carolina.

Williamson said that she hopes to see her platform taken up by future campaigns and candidates. Williamson will maintain her campaign website for informational purposes, the writer stated in a statement. The campaign spoke for the “most ignored” Americans, the statement said.

Although Biden has won every Democratic nominating contest as of this writing, Phillips is attempting to capitalize on growing criticisms of Biden’s mental competency. On February 8, Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report on Biden’s mishandling of classified documents detailed several lapses in memory by Biden about his life and career.

Biden forgot the dates of his term as vice president, as well as when his son Beau died. Following the release of Hur’s report, Biden delivered a speech defending his memory. However, Biden proceeded to confuse the leader of Egypt with the leader of Mexico.

Phillips described himself as a “55 year old man with a good memory” in an apparent attempt to create contrast with Biden. Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley also reiterated her call for mental competency tests for politicians over the age of 75.

Considering Williamson ended her long-shot challenge to Biden, it will be up to Phillips, Haley, and Donald Trump to stand in the way of the aging president’s reelection.
