(FeaturedHeadlines.com) US President Joe Biden is the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee for the 2024 presidential election, given his advantages as the incumbent. However, Biden declined to answer a question on May 29 about whether he would actually complete a full second term in the White House if reelected.
A reporter asked Biden about his willingness to serve out a full second term in office during a trip to Philadelphia. Instead of answering the question, Biden taunted the reporter, asking him whether he had hurt his head. The reporter reiterated his question, but again, Biden refused to answer it.
It is unclear whether Biden ignored the question, misunderstood it, or simply could not hear it. Regardless, it raises other questions about Biden’s age and his willingness to address concerns surrounding it.
In March, a poll found that 63% of registered voters in the United States believe Biden, 81, is too old to serve as president. Biden is the oldest president in US history and would be 86 by the end of a second term as president. The poll also found that a majority of voters, 57%, believe he is already mentally unfit for the leadership position.
Biden’s senectitude is not the only age-related issue impacting his chances of reelection in 2024. A poll published in May found that Biden is struggling with younger voters more than he did in the 2020 race.
In a two-way race with Donald Trump, Biden leads by four percentage points with voters under 45 and by six points with Millennial and Generation Z voters. In 2020, Biden won the under-45 vote by a double-digit margin.
Moreover, when independent and third-party candidates are included, Trump leads Biden by six points with Millennial and Generation Z voters and by eight points with voters under 45, the poll found. Younger voters “don’t see a lot of connection” to Biden, Marist College Institute for Public Opinion director Lee Miringoff said.
Even if Biden will not directly answer questions related to concerns about his age, it appears as though voters are nevertheless influenced by the issue.
