(FeaturedHeadlines.com) US President Joe Biden’s health and cognitive competence came under scrutiny following a disastrous debate performance against Republican challenger Donald Trump. However, his doctor, Kevin O’Connor, is under scrutiny as well for his connection to Biden family business affairs.
O’Connor serves as the White House physician and is responsible for providing public summaries of Biden’s health after medical exams. O’Connor has said that Biden is healthy enough to serve as president, but has not made him take a cognitive test as part of his checkups.
House Republicans are interested in whether O’Connor’s assessments of Biden’s fitness are influenced by his ties to the Biden family’s business activities. O’Connor helped the Bidens with a failed healthcare venture, Americore.
The House Oversight Committee obtained evidence showing that Joe Biden’s brother, James Biden, used Americore funds to pay Joe Biden $200,000. James Biden also received hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans from the company. During an interview, James Biden confirmed that O’Connor provided him counsel in connection with his Americore work, the Oversight Committee said.
The panel is seeking a transcribed interview with O’Connor in light of the evidence. Lawmakers are also requesting that O’Connor turn over documents and communications related to his involvement in the Biden family’s business affairs.
O’Connor is not the only doctor whose activities have come under scrutiny following Biden’s debate debacle. Neurologist Kevin Cannard visited the White House numerous times under the Biden administration, including for a meeting with O’Connor.
O’Connor said that Cannard, an expert on Parkinson’s disease, visited the White House to support active-duty military servicemembers who are assigned to the presidential headquarters. The White House also claimed that Biden has never been treated for Parkinson’s.
Although the exact nature of O’Connor and Cannard’s ties to Biden remain unclear, questions about Biden’s health have put them under the spotlight. Perhaps the Oversight Committee’s probe will clarify the situation, or leave lawmakers with even more questions.
