(FeaturedHeadlines.com) – The Democratic Party was already in disarray about US President Joe Biden’s reelection bid in the wake of his disastrous debate performance against Republican nominee Donald Trump. However, the party’s hopes for the 2024 race were further dashed by the potential impact of an assassination attempt against Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

On July 13, the Congressional Progressive Caucus and New Democrat Coalition held a call with Biden to discuss their concerns about Biden’s viability as a candidate. The call became heated when Congressman Jason Crow told Biden that the public’s faith in his leadership was declining.

Nevertheless, Crow said that Biden heard their concerns and vowed to return with more information to address them. There is a lot at stake with the election, Crow said, adding that emotions run high in such a situation.

Lawmakers described Biden as incoherent and unintelligible during his exchange with Crow. They also called the dialogue tense, adding that Biden was defensive when asked whether his age and mental fitness posed a national security risk.

Biden gave “rambling responses” to Democrats’ questions, another lawmaker on the call said. Biden also downplayed their concerns about his candidacy, the lawmaker said. Participants of the call were dismayed by Biden’s failure to prepare for questions and present a strategy.

Concerns about the Biden campaign extend to the upper echelons of the Democratic Party. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a private call with Biden to express concerns about his polling numbers.

Pelosi told Biden that he is unlikely to defeat Trump and that his presence at the top of the Democratic ticket could cost the party its chance to win a majority in the House of Representatives. In response, Biden said that he saw polls indicating that he could indeed beat Trump in November.

Nevertheless, it is clear that Democrats are not sold on Biden’s reelection bid, raising questions about whether they will ultimately pressure him to drop out of the race in favor of an alternative nominee.
