Explosive Device Detonated Outside AG’s Office

(FeaturedHeadlines.com) – State and federal authorities are investigating the detonation of an explosive device outside the office of Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall. On February 24, an explosive device detonated outside of Marshall’s office in Montgomery, although nobody was injured in the incident.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is leading the investigation into the incident. ALEA encourages anybody with information about the incident to contact them immediately.

ALEA was alerted to the situation on February 26, after which point they went to the scene and ruled it safe. Montgomery Police Department officers and US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents also responded to the scene.

Neither injuries nor damage to nearby buildings were found, the FBI’s Mobile office said in a statement. The FBI set up a tip page for people to submit information about the incident directly to investigators.

The incident comes in the wake of an Alabama Supreme Court decision on the legal status of embryos. The state’s top court ruled that embryos used in the process of in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments legally qualify as children. The ruling sparked concerns about whether the state could prosecute people receiving IVF treatment or doctors providing it.

Marshall said that his office has no intention of prosecuting IVF patients or providers as a result of the court decision. Republican state lawmakers in Alabama are working with Governor Kay Ivey on legislation to protect IVF treatments.

Both US President Joe Biden and leading Republican 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump said in response to the Alabama court ruling that they support access to IVF treatments. The Republican Party should always be on the side of the “miracle of life,” Trump said, adding that the party will always support the creation of healthy families under his leadership.

Regardless of the intent behind placing an explosive device outside Marshall’s office, investigators are working to get to the bottom of the case and bring the perpetrator to justice.
