(FeaturedHeadlines.com) – Former US President Donald Trump, who secured the Republican Party’s 2024 nomination at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, also announced Senator JD Vance as his running mate at the event. Vance would have been likely to debate US Vice President Kamala Harris, whom Senator Katie Britt expects Vance to handily defeat.
However, President Biden announced on Sunday, July 21, that he is dropping out of the race and giving his endorsement to Harris.
Vance will “run circles” around Harris, Britt said. The senator said she is excited to watch the debate, although she predicted that it will not even be competitive.
Britt said that she considers Vance not just a colleague, but also a friend. The American people will love Vance when they get to know him better, Britt added.
Vance’s life story came into the spotlight after Trump chose him as his running mate. In 2016, Vance released “Hillbilly Elegy,” a memoir about his family’s Appalachian values and their experience with poverty.
The memoir was also adapted into a movie in 2020. Following his selection as Trump’s running mate, the memoir topped the Amazon Best Sellers chart and the movie adaptation became one of the most-viewed movies on Netflix.
Harris held a call with Vance to congratulate him for winning a spot on the Republican ticket, during which the two exchanged pleasantries. However, the two vice presidential candidates had not agreed on the terms of a debate. Such a debate will not take place now, of course. Vance will be debating whoever the Democratic National Committee decides to nominate for vice president.
The Biden-Harris campaign had wanted to hold the debate on CBS, whereas the Trump-Vance campaign wanted to hold it on Fox News. Nevertheless, both teams agreed to July 23 or August 13 as potential dates for the debate.
Vance had said that it is important to hold a debate with Harris to contrast the two campaigns. The Biden campaign had said that they feel “very good” about holding a debate between Harris and Vance. Unlike Britt, Senator Elizabeth Warren said that Harris would “take it” to Vance in a debate.
