(FeaturedHeadlines.com) – Republican US Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky is known as a staunch defender of liberty and fiscal responsibility, but also as a man dedicated to his family. Sadly, tragedy struck the Massie family when Thomas’ wife of more than 35 years, Rhonda, passed away. The congressman spent some two weeks away from social media to mourn with his loved ones, but returned with a beautiful message honoring his late wife.
Although Massie said that he is still devastated by the loss of his wife, their four children helped him through it. More than 1,000 friends and family members attended his wife’s services or sent tributes to her memory, Massie said.
Massie asked his constituents in Kentucky to forgive him for missing votes during the mourning period, adding that he is returning to work. Massie said that he will strive to summon the grace, patience, and wisdom of his wife.
In the statement announcing his wife’s death, Massie described her as the smartest and kindest woman he ever knew. Massie recounted how they met in high school, went to prom together, and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology together.
Massie received condolences from many colleagues and supporters, including US Senator Mike Lee, political activist Charlie Kirk, libertarian comedian Dave Smith, and independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The news also sparked speculation about whether there may have been a nefarious reason for the death, considering Massie has been outspoken about his political beliefs.
Massie said that he first responded to such conspiracy theories with indignation but later found them amusing. Massie said that his wife would have laughed at them too.
Massie insisted that their house was secure the night his wife died. The only credible conspiracy is that a gorgeous, genius girl conspired to make him a congressman that would be steerable by no one but her, Massie said.
It is tragic that Massie lost his wife, whom he clearly loved, but America is lucky to still have the congressman around to champion the cause of liberty.
