Marine Sentenced to 9 Years for Bombing Abortion Clinic

(FeaturedHeadlines.com) A US district court sentenced former US Marine Chance Brannon to nine years in prison on April 15 for bombing an abortion clinic in California in 2022. Brannon, 24, pleaded guilty alongside two co-defendants, who are set to be sentenced in May.

Brannon was serving as an active-duty member of the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton when he bombed a Planned Parenthood clinic in Costa Mesa. On March 13, 2022, Brannon and one of the co-defendants threw a Molotov cocktail at the clinic, which was closed at the time of the attack.

Brannon pleaded guilty to four felony charges, including intentional damage to a reproductive health services facility, possession of an unregistered destructive device, and malicious destruction of property by fire and explosives.

Brannon also told authorities that he planned to conduct further attacks on a second abortion clinic, a power substation, and an LGBT pride event. Additionally, Brannon planned home invasions on Jewish residences in Los Angeles.

US District Judge Cormac Carney sentenced Brannon to nine years in prison and ordered him to pay $1,000 in restitution. Brannon, who was first taken into federal custody in June 2023, will also remain on supervised release for three years following his prison sentence.

Brannon sought to start a “race war,” US Attorney for the Central District of California Martin Estrada said. FBI Los Angeles Field Office Acting Assistant Director Mehtab Syed claimed that Brannon held a “neo-Nazi” worldview and targeted people who did not conform with his perspective.

Law enforcement discovered anti-Semitic books and drawings in Brannon’s bedroom. Brannon also praised Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in text messages and possessed a recording of the 2019 Christchurch mosque shooting, in which 51 people were killed and 40 others injured by a white supremacist.

Perhaps the nine-year prison sentence will give Brannon the time to reconsider his worldview, or at the very least prevent him from carrying out further attacks to promote it.
