(FeaturedHeadlines.com) A tragic mass shooting event in Akron, Ohio, left one dead and 27 injured, with the suspect remaining at large.
According to the police, they received calls from local hospitals reporting that many people injured with gunshot wounds were rushing to the medical facilities.
The Mayor of Akron, Shammas Malik, expressed his sorrow at the incident, adding that he is optimistic to bring the culprit to justice.
Malik noted that the country is currently going through the gun violence “epidemic”, and the only way to maintain peace is to make people accountable for their actions.
The details of the 27-year-old man who died are still unknown. Police Chief Brian Harding, however, revealed that the injured victims are in the age bracket of 19 to 43. Two victims remain in critical condition.
Harding also revealed that the police found at least 35 bullet casings and two handguns at the crime scene, which was hosting an outdoor party just before the tragic shooting. Almost 200 people attended that birthday party.
Seeing the different types of bullet casings, Harding continued, it seems that people attending the party also fired back.
The police believe that the suspect was driving a car at the time of the shooting.
Harding also mentioned that at least 100 people may have witnessed the tragedy live so they should come forward to help the law enforcement catch the suspect.
As the suspect still remains at large, three agencies have offered a collective reward of $22,500 to anyone who brings credible information about the whereabouts of the suspect.
These rewards include $10,000 from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, $5,000 from the United States Marshal Service, and $7,500 from the Summit County Crime Stoppers.
It is yet to be discovered if the shooting has any connection with the party or if the shooter intentionally wanted to target the event.
A nearby doorbell camera captured the shooting, but the footage remains unclear due to the lighting issues.
