(FeaturedHeadlines.com) Texas Megachurch pastor Robert Morris resigned after admitting that he sexually assaulted a “young lady,” who accused the pastor of exploiting her multiple times, including when she was only 12 years old.
In the admission of guilt, Morris stated that he was involved in “kissing and petting” with a young lady at his home and that he did not have any intercourse. Morris admitted that he was wrong, claiming that he submitted himself to the girl’s father and the elders of the Shady Grove Church at the time of the incident. Since then, Morris continued, he has not been involved in any such incident.
Morris used to lead the weekend congregation of more than 100,000 people in Gateway Church in Texas, which was established in 2000.
According to the church elders, although Morris spoke about his extramarital affairs multiple times during his service, he always talked about the “young lady” and not the 12-year-old child.
Even though Morris’ controversy dates back to the 1980s, the elders noted that they wished they had all the information about the pastor’s actions during his years of service.
Cindy Clemishire, the woman who accused Morris of sexual assault, claimed that he started assaulting her after 1982 Christmas when she was 12 years old and did it frequently till 1986. She stated that all of this started when Morris came to her home with his wife and son. He was trusted because he used to preach in the church, which the girl’s father helped to start.
Clemishire argued that Morris used to touch her body parts and “inserted his fingers” in her. Now when she is an adult, she knows that it is considered a rape, Clemishire continued.
At the time, Clemishire’s father reportedly asked Morris to either resign from the church or be ready to face the police. Although her father forgave him and did not pursue legal action against him, Clemishire accused Morris of lying who claimed that he was blessed by her father when he forgave him.
