Pregnant and Intoxicated Mom Drives Into 16 Pedestrians Killing 2 Cops

(FeaturedHeadlines.com) A pregnant woman driving under the influence smashed her car into a large group from the same family, resulting in two deaths and fourteen injuries, eight of whom have since been released from the hospital.

Ashley Monroe, a 35-year-old mother of four, drove into sixteen family members who were walking in Clinton County, Michigan around 6:30 p.m. on May 18. After the crash, Monroe fled the scene but was later apprehended by the police following a chase.

The authorities found her blood alcohol content to be 0.183, which was significantly higher than the legal limit of 0.08. The police noted visible damage to the front of her car, including traces of hair, tissue, and blood from the victims.

Two people, Johnathan Esch, 30, and Daniel Harris, 42, died at the scene, and fourteen others, including seven children under the age of 10, were injured. A 38-year-old woman is currently battling with life-threatening injuries, while the rest of them are in stable condition. The oldest victim was 61-year old.

Monroe now faces 11 felony counts that stem from her failure to stop at an incident that caused fatalities, and driving under the influence.

Prosecutors also believe that the charges against the woman can increase based on the outcome of the patient, who is still in critical condition.

Assistant Prosecutor Debra Martinez labeled her a severe threat to the public and requested her bail be set at half a million dollars. To his surprise, the District Court Judge Michael Clarizio has set her bond at $1 million.

Even if she posts the bond, she will be unable to leave the state and contact the victims.

Meanwhile, a defense lawyer argued that Monroe is pregnant and is already a mother of four children, who works at the office of Michigan’s Secretary of State.

Monroe, who is currently held at Clinton County Jail, pleaded not guilty to the charges during an online court hearing.
