Top Businessman Accuses Dems of Hijacking Democracy

(FeaturedHeadlines.com) American businessman and social media personality Dave Portnoy is accusing the Democratic Party of trying to sidestep the democratic process by replacing US President Joe Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s 2024 presidential nominee. Biden ended his reelection bid amid questions about his viability as a candidate and quickly endorsed Harris as his replacement.

The swap is an attempt by the Democratic Party to “hijack” democracy, Portnoy said. The Democratic Party did not hold competitive primaries under the assumption that Biden would run for reelection, depriving Democratic voters of the chance to help select a different nominee.

Biden dropping out of the race is the right move for the wrong reasons, Portnoy said. Democrats have been hiding Biden’s declining health for years but only replaced him after concluding that he cannot beat Republican nominee Donald Trump in the 2024 race, according to Portnoy.

Democratic lawmakers were quick to back Harris as Biden’s replacement in the hours after Biden announced his departure from the race. In the 30 hours after Biden’s announcement, 186 House Democrats, 43 Senate Democrats and 23 Democratic governors endorsed Harris.

Other prominent Democratic lawmakers, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, did not immediately endorse Harris but offered words of encouragement. Democratic delegates have also been formally throwing their support behind Harris’ bid to secure the party’s nomination.

However, not every Democratic elite is lining up behind Harris. Democratic donor John Morgan said that he will not fundraise for Harris. Biden’s endorsement of Harris is an insult to the people who “pushed him out” of the race, Morgan said.

If the Trump campaign could pick anybody to run against, they would pick Harris, Morgan said. Morgan contended that people like Senator Joe Manchin, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, or former First Lady Michelle Obama would have been superior replacements.

Although Harris has all but secured the nomination, it is clear that not everybody is happy about the circumstances of her rise.
