Trump Calls Putin’s Endorsement of Biden a ‘Great Compliment’

(FeaturedHeadlines.com) – Former US President Donald Trump appears to perceive Russian President Vladimir Putin’s preference for Joe Biden as a form of praise after the foreign leader said that it would be better for Russia if Biden were to win the 2024 presidential election. Trump called Putin’s statement a “great compliment” and brushed off people who interpreted the comment negatively.

On February 14, Putin told Russian state television that Russia would be better off under a second Biden term. Biden is a more experienced and predictable leader, Putin said, referring to him as a member of the “old formation” of the American political establishment.

Later in the day, Trump said Putin prefers Biden because Biden would give the Russian leader “everything he wants,” including Ukraine. Trump highlighted the fact that he stopped the development of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 energy pipeline to Europe, whereas Biden approved it shortly after taking office. Trump added that Putin is “not a fan” of his.

Putin’s statement aligns with the reported conclusions of an unreleased House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) investigation. The HPSCI probe found that the US intelligence community fabricated claims that Putin preferred Trump over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 race.

Former CIA Director John Brennan and other intelligence officials reportedly elevated unreliable sources in their assessment and disregarded information about Russia viewing Clinton as “manageable” and reflective of US political continuity. The intelligence assessment fueled claims that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to aid Trump.

However, Trump came under fire for his stance on Russia’s primary adversary: the NATO alliance. Trump said during a February 10 speech that he would not defend NATO allies that were delinquent on payments to the organization, and would even “encourage” Russia to do whatever it wanted.

In response to Trump’s statement, the Biden campaign released a new advertisement, which criticized Trump for his NATO policy. Trump’s stance is dangerous and “un-American,” the ad said.

Nevertheless, it appears as though Putin prefers Biden’s policies and personality over Trump’s heading into the 2024 race.
