The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall affecting 840 units of “Montreal Fudge” branded Chocolate Fudge with Nuts. The affected items are packaged in a distinct 5.6-ounce box with an orange top, white printed background, and an illustration of three fudge pieces emphasizing “individually wrapped.”

The products were distributed to retailers and sold in select Marshalls and TJ Maxx locations across 40 states between June 19 and June 20. The recall was initiated following a consumer complaint about mold in an unopened box and subsequent findings of mold growth at the manufacturing site.

Consumers are urged to destroy or return affected products for a full refund. If questions arise, customers can contact Authentik Fudge directly at [email protected]

Diamond Shruumz Recall and Health Risks

In a separate incident, a recall has been issued for Diamond Shruumz-brand mushroom-infused chocolates and gummies. The recall follows reports of dozens of illnesses and hospitalizations. The FDA and other agencies are investigating the products, which contain muscimol, a chemical found in some mushrooms suspected of causing the symptoms. As of June 23, 39 illnesses and 23 hospitalizations have been reported.

“It is crucial that all of our consumers refrain from ingesting this product while we, alongside the FDA, continue our investigation as to what is the cause of the serious adverse effects,” Prophet Premium Blends stated on the Diamond Shruumz website. “We prioritize the health and safety of our consumers above all else.”

Symptoms reported from consuming these products include seizures, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, agitation, abnormal heart rates, nausea, and vomiting. Higher than normal amounts of muscimol are being investigated as the cause. Toxicology experts have raised questions about the ingredients listed and the effects experienced by consumers. Consumers are advised to discard the products immediately.

Retailer Instructions and Response

Retailers have been instructed not to sell or distribute the affected products and to hold them securely. Prophet Premium Blends, the company behind Diamond Shruumz, emphasizes that these measures are essential to prevent any further health risks while investigations continue.

The FDA has issued a recall for the entire range of Diamond-Shruumz confectionery products due to toxic levels of muscimol. Consumers continue to be advised to destroy, return, or hold these products securely until further instructions are provided. This precautionary approach aims to ensure public safety and prevent any future incidents of this nature.

“At Prophet Premium Blends, we prioritize the health and safety of our consumers above all else,” a statement seen by ABC News reads. “Recently, we have been made aware of reported incidents involving our product, Diamond Shruumz. Due to consumers becoming ill after consuming the entire chocolate bar and some products containing higher levels of muscimol than normal, it is crucial that all of our consumers refrain from ingesting this product while we, alongside the FDA, continue our investigation as to what is the cause of the serious adverse effects.”

These incidents underline the critical role of stringent quality control and rapid response in safeguarding public health. Ensuring consumer safety remains a top priority as investigations proceed to identify the contamination’s origin and implement measures to prevent future occurrences.
