(FeaturedHeadlines.com) US President Joe Biden has been dealing with the fallout of his poor performance during a debate with Republican challenger Donald Trump, including calls for him to end his reelection bid. Trump is seeking to put the nails in the coffin of Biden’s campaign by suggesting a “no holds barred” debate in the future.
Trump called on Biden to participate in a debate with just the two candidates on stage discussing the future of the country. Such a format would shatter previous viewership ratings for presidential debates, Trump said.
A freeform debate would also answer the “Crooked Joe Biden Incompetence Puzzle,” Trump said. Biden received criticism, including from fellow Democrats, for his lackluster showing against Trump in their first debate of the 2024 election cycle.
Biden’s debate debacle sparked concerns about his competency and cognitive capabilities heading into a potential second term in the White House. However, Biden dismissed the concerns and claimed that he was simply suffering from a cold.
Biden’s team blamed the cold on foreign travel to Italy for the Group of Seven summit. Biden returned from the trip on June 14 and then spent a week sequestered at Camp David, six days after arriving back in the United States.
Although the White House conceded that the presidency is a 24/7 job, they said that Biden is working on balancing his work with his health. Biden told Democratic governors that he will avoid holding events after 8 p.m. in an effort to get more sleep.
Biden also told Democratic lawmakers that he is committed to staying in the race. Biden said that he is “not blind” to concerns about his debate performance but that he would not be running again if he did not firmly believe in his ability to win reelection.
Biden called on the Democratic lawmakers to unify behind him. Feeding concerns about Biden’s viability as a candidate and raising the possibility of replacing him with an alternative nominee only helps Trump, Biden said.
If Biden truly wants to convince skeptical colleagues of his competency, perhaps he should take Trump up on his offer of a no-holds-barred debate and redeem himself on a public stage.
