Gaza Doctors Claim Israel Targeting Hospitals

(FeaturedHeadlines.com) Palestinian healthcare professionals are accusing the Israeli military of destroying hospitals in Gaza that were already grappling with critical medical equipment, electricity, and food shortages.

Israel has claimed to chase Hamas terrorists hiding and getting treatment in hospitals, but investigations reveal that assaults on medical facilities make the sufferings of an average Palestinian worse.

A plastic surgeon who witnessed the Israeli army invasion in one of the hospitals recounted the horrors when IDF soldiers raided the Orthopedics department, and healthcare professionals were faced with two choices: either to be killed or detained.

A senior medical professional of Gaza, Dr Adnan Al Bursh, who was the head of the Orthopedics department at Shifa hospital, died in Israel’s captivity four months after he was arrested. Dr Iyad Rantisi, who was running a female hospital, also died in Israeli detention, with the Israeli security agency Shin Bet later acknowledging that they were investigating Rantisi’s death.

Footage from Gaza’s Al Khair hospital shows IDF soldiers entering the medical facility, while mobile videos of multiple hospitals being bombed are also circulating on the internet.

The United Nations has also revealed that more than 500 Palestinian healthcare workers, including 50 specialist doctors, have been killed since the beginning of the latest Israel-Palestian conflict on October 7.

Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sittah, who fled Gaza in November, stated that Israeli forces had killed different kidney and emergency specialists in Gaza hospitals. Abu-Sittah showed investigators a WhatsApp group of Gaza medical professionals that was previously used to share medical advice but has now been repurposed to report the deaths and arrests of doctors.

On top of killing doctors, Israeli forces have also detained more than 214 medical professionals, which further pushes the Gaza medical facilities into a staffing crisis.

At least 20 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are either destroyed by Israel or remain nonfunctional for various reasons, which puts undue strain on the remaining medical facilities. Since October 7, the death toll in Gaza has almost reached 40,000.
